ETH & gas converter
Convert between wei, gwei and ether, and price a transaction in ETH.
An amount of ETH
Ether, gwei and wei are the same currency at three different zoom levels.
Anything from 0.0001 to the 18-digit wei figures block explorers show.
Automatic reads decimals as ether and long whole numbers as wei.
What a transaction will cost
Gas used multiplied by the price you pay for each unit.
A plain ETH transfer always uses 21,000. Wallets show this estimate before you confirm.
What gas prices are usually quoted in. Mainnet sits somewhere between 5 and 50.
The same amount, three ways
Type an amount on the left and you'll see it in wei, gwei and ether at the same time.
No transaction priced yet
Fill in the gas used and a gas price to see what the transaction costs in ETH.
How much gas things usually use
Rough figures — the exact number depends on the contract and the state it's in.
| What you're doing | Gas used |
|---|---|
| Sending ETH to someone | 21,000 |
| Sending an ERC-20 token | ~ 50,000 – 65,000 |
| Approving a token for a contract | ~ 45,000 |
| Minting an NFT | ~ 85,000 – 150,000 |
| Swapping on a DEX | ~ 150,000 – 250,000 |
| Deploying a contract | 500,000 and up |
One ether = 1,000,000,000 gwei = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 wei. Gas prices are quoted in gwei because a whole ether per unit of gas would be absurd, and wei per unit would be unreadable.
